Organic AntifreezeNature's non-toxic alternatives

Crops and animals contain natural antifreeze compounds, some of which are utilised in heat transfer fluids. The most commonly used organic antifreeze is Glycerine, also referred to as Glycerol, which is easily derived from soya, rapeseed and cattle. Ethanol and Methanol, produced organically, both have antifreeze characteristics, but are flammable at concentrations above 3%.

More recently Betaine, derived from sugar-beet and Bio-PG, derived from corn, have become available, but supplies are limited and subsequently expensive. Efficiency wise, blending several organic products together often improves their individual performance and resistance to biological contamination, which is reflected in the formulations for CoolFlow ECO2, Thermox FXC2 etc.
